We’ve listed a few interactive trust building activities to build morale in your next corporate meeting and/or training. We all know about the “trust fall,” but what other corporate team building activities foster a sense of trust and belonging? We’re sharing them here.  One’s value as an employee is closely relied upon being a trustworthy individual to their co-workers, supervisors and managers. Trust building exercises have been around for decades. In the modern workforce, the question remains, is corporate trust building still worthwhile? The answer is “Yes”, and here’s why. Teamwork promotes trust and reduces conflict in the workplace. Employees that trust and rely on one another collaborate more and communicate more effectively. Most importantly, today’s employees want to feel like they are part of something greater than themselves. The key to recruiting and retaining top employees in the future is creating a culture of challenge and inclusion. Corporate trust building plays an vital role in creating that culture. An important part of that culture is trust. Young employees want to feel that they can trust their managers and co-workers with their personal thoughts and professional development.

Innovative Trust Building Activities for Your Group

We all know about the trust fall. You fall. They catch you (or not). You either learn to trust your team or have fall nightmares for weeks. It’s time for something new. So what are some activities your company can do to encourage your employees to trust and rely on one another? Here are a few of our top picks:

  1. Come on Down for Game Shows. Ok, we’re a little biased since we offer an array of game show-themed activities for icebreakers, corporate events, and team bonding retreats. But game show activities are fun, familiar, and unique. Your employees will enjoy participating. And they’ll continue to bond as they share memories of the event for weeks afterward. A family feud style game like our Face-2-Face Feud requires your employees to agree on an answer. It’s a great trust building choice!
  2. Navigating a Mine Field. This exercise can include several variations. The key is that one team member knows where the mines are located, and the other(s) have to trust that person to navigate for them. Take the wrong step and your team loses the game.
  3. The Sum of the Parts. Divide employees into smaller groups and assign them a construction task using blocks or office supplies. Each team must find the materials to use to build their item, but each team member can only collect a set number of the necessary pieces. The item can’t be successfully built unless every team member remembers and brings the correct piece to the construction location. Each team member has to trust the others to do (and bring) their part.
  4. See and Say. This activity is inspired by the game Pictionary. But it has one extra step. Instead, of one person drawing and the other guessing, this version uses three team members. The first team member gets to see the clue. That team member then has to give the second member step by step instructions to draw the clue. Here’s the catch– team member one cannot watch team member two draw the image. Also, team member three can’t watch or listen. Finally, team member three gets to view the drawing and try to guess the clue. Use a series of related clues to lead to the final answer. The team with the highest number of clues guessed or the best final answer wins.
